about
Hi, I’m Micah
pronouns: they/them/she/her
I offer counseling in English and work with humans six years old to end-of-life - whatever number that may be.
me.
I’ve had the privilege of traveling all over this amazing blue dot and have gone through 4 passports. I also had the honor of living in both Taiwan 中国台湾 and Japan 日本. I must share, you learn a great deal about yourself and humility when you live in places of such diversity, history, beauty, and complexity.
I'm also not afraid to admit that I embrace my inner NERD! I love 80’s video games and consider myself a Galaga and Frogger Master.
I love documentaries, reading, playing with all my furry children, photography, sailing, and vibing with my spouse. I still listen to 80’s new wave music and identify as goth, new waver.
My favorite instrument in the world is the cello, and find her haunting sounds both sonorous and transcendental.
I’m also weirdly fascinated with black rocks and will comb the beach for hours and hours looking for them.
experience.
Since graduating from UW, I’ve worked in a lot of amazing clinical settings, which include the role of a medical social worker in a designated Level I emergency department serving adult and pediatric patients in Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI); social worker supporting our nation's Veterans in areas of addiction, mental health and homelessness; as a crisis counselor in an inpatient crisis stabilization unit; behavioral health counselor at a COVID quarantine unit and a psychotherapist in both a community healthcare clinic and hospital outpatient clinic.
In the past 3 years, I have begun providing diversity, equity, and inclusion consultation to non-profit organizations. I’m also passionate about supporting trans youth and their loved ones through the work I do with TransFamilies. I’m also proud to say that - I’m published! Check out the second edition of Trans Bodies, Trans Selves, Section Edition. I had the honor and privilege of co-authoring the chapter: Children with Aidan Key.
my approach.
At Toward the Within Counseling, it is my mission to provide inclusive therapy to folks through a lens that is anti-white supremacy, trauma-informed, queer-affirming, non-pathologizing, and strengths-based.
I love to work with folks addressing anxiety, depression, Political Stress, Ecological Anxiety, Burn-Out, Gender identity, and Sexual Minority Stress, as well as individuals with various neurovariations such as autism, ADHD, rejection sensitivity (RSD), and persistent demand avoidance (PDA). I bring a feminist-infused perspective to my psychotherapy practice, which centers on non-judgmental listening, collaborative discourse, and behaviorally specific interventions. Over the years, I’ve developed a practical and conversational counseling style that is results-oriented and uses an integrative approach.
I’m also becoming more attuned in my climate-aware practice and work with collective healing, eco-anxiety, and environmental grief.
I practice from a place of humility, recognizing that I have many intersections of privilege that can create blind spots for me - I’m open to being called in and called up!
I’m committed to lifelong learning and enjoy attending trainings and workshops, especially around topics of climate justice, anti-oppression work, collective liberation, radical social justice work, gender, ecotherapy, and somatic healing.
